    Tax Department presents Prinsjesdag Special 2024

    Athora Netherlands' Fiscal Affairs department has traditionally carried out an analysis of the new cabinet plans presented on 'Prinsjesdag'. What do these mean in tax terms?

    In this thirteenth edition of our Prinsjesdag Special, Bernd Heijnen and Kees van Oostwaard provide an overview of the relevant proposals for financial products in the field of retirement provisions, life insurance, savings and investments, and the own home. They also include the relevant passages from the coalition programme:

    With a new cabinet and a new set-up in the form of an extra-parliamentary cabinet and a party-less prime minister, it took some time to see whether this new approach would carry over to Prinsjesdag. Much remained the same. Beforehand, the content had at least been coordinated with the four coalition parties.

    Just before Prinsjesdag - Friday 13 September 2024 - the new cabinet also presented its Coalition Programme. We also include that in this article.

    Last year, the theme of the outgoing Rutte IV cabinet was ‘Budgeting for broad prosperity’. This year, the theme is ‘Solid budgeting for prosperity and stability’. The Schoof cabinet's primary focus is thus on fiscal discipline.
