    About the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra is counted among the absolute world's best. The special acoustics of the Concertgebouw play an important role in the orchestra's acclaimed sound. The orchestra's stature is also determined by the influence of its musicians and the seven chief conductors it has known: Willem Kes, Willem Mengelberg, Eduard van Beinum, Bernard Haitink, Riccardo Chailly, Mariss Jansons and Daniele Gatti.

Since the 2022/2023 season, Finnish conductor Klaus Mäkelä has joined the orchestra as artistic partner. From 2027, he will take the baton as chief conductor. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra gives some eighty concerts a year in The Concertgebouw and forty on other major stages. It also reaches music lovers worldwide with videos, streams, radio and TV broadcasts, CDs and DVDs. The Academy of the Concertgebouw Orchestra trains talented young musicians for the orchestral profession. The Concertgebouw Orchestra Young brings together talents aged 14 to 17 from all over Europe.

The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra is partly funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the City of Amsterdam, sponsors, funds and many donors worldwide. Most of its income is generated by concert proceeds at home and abroad.
